One of the country's busiest air hubs, San Francisco International Airport, located about 14 miles south of San Francisco, provides a number of domestic and international flights between the United States, the Pacific Rim, Latin America and Europe. The airport boasts good facilities for passengers.

There are three terminals at the airport. Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, TWA, Air Canada, Alitalia and Northwest all serve Terminal 1 while Terminal 3 is devoted to American Airlines and United Airlines. Terminal 2 is now closed for renovation. The new international terminal handles several Europe and Asian airlines that fly all over the world. The AirTrain connects all terminals together.

ATMs can be found everywhere in the terminal while the Bank of America serves as the main bank in the airport. There are also currency exchange services available throughout the airport. Those wishing to send a letter or postcard can use mail boxes or automated post offices, which are situated in all terminals.

Shopping at San Francisco International Airport is fun as the airport boasts a wide range of goods and souvenirs. There are four duty-free shops in the International Terminal while Terminal 3 also features many stores including a toy shop, cosmetics outlet, an aviation memorabilia store and a few bookshops.

A variety of food can be enjoyed throughout the airport. Passengers can find countless eateries located throughout all the terminals. A number of restaurants, bars and cafés await hungry tourists. Among many facilities, passengers can also visit a pharmacy in the international terminal and a medical centre on the ground floor of Terminal 2.

There is a well-equipped business centre at the international terminal near the ticket counters, providing workspaces, computers with internet connection, copying, faxing and printing services. Meeting rooms with web-conferencing services are also available upon request.

Transportation at San Francisco International Airport

The airport provides good transfers to the city. Rail services leave the airport at Millbrae to the city centre and major areas regularly. The journey from the airport to Millbrae takes about 25 minutes.

Another good option if you travel in a big group is to hire a shared-ride van or shuttle van. Taxis are also very easy to find. Taxis as well as vans for hire are waiting for their passengers in the central island between the terminals.

Parking at San Francisco International Airport

The airport offers short term and valet parking options at a central spot between terminals 1 and 3, located within a very short walk to both terminals. Long-term parking is also available but you need to park further away on McDonnell road. From this parking lot, you will be transferred to the terminals by shuttle bus.
