A major gateway to central and eastern Virginia, Richmond International Airport handles about two and a half million passengers annually, with flights flying to more than 22 destinations throughout the country. The airport boasts modern facilities and good transport options.
Those wishing to use banking services can find a full-service bank on the ground level of the terminal. There are many ATMs everywhere in the airport as well as in the car park lobbies. A lost-and-found service is also provided, among many other facilities.
Shopping enthusiasts might not find the airport too exciting. However, the airport is home to some good stores including a Hudson news agent and a confectionery store. Duty-free shopping is not available at the airport.
There are no full-service restaurants at the airport but it does boast many good choices of cafés and snack bars. Among the many cafés are Richmond Café and Jake's Coffeehouse.
The Teleconferencing Centre located on the lower level of the terminal provides full on business and conference facilities, with telephone and faxing services as well as free internet. Wi-Fi internet is also available on the second floor of the building.
Transportation at Richmond International Airport
The most popular option to get downtown is to use bus services from the Greater Richmond Transit Company, which operate buses from the airport to the city centre and several greater Richmond districts.
Another good option is to take the shuttle bus that runs from in front of the terminal building to your destination. Shuttle buses are ideal for those traveling in a big group. The most economical way is, however, to ask for a courtesy service from your hotel. You should book the shuttle in advance upon your hotel booking.
Taxis are available outside the airport. Taxis run to various destinations in Richmond, with reasonable fares. Wheelchair-accessible taxis can also be requested.
Parking at Richmond International Airport
The airport boasts multi-level parking garages, located in front of the terminal. The North and South parking garages cater to those wishing to park hourly. The first 30 minutes at any car park is free of charge, allowing passengers to be dropped off and picked up conveniently.
Valet parking is also a convenient option for busy travellers. Drivers can drop their car at the terminal entrance. The car will be parked in a safe compound, waiting to be picked up at the same spot upon the return of the passengers.
