General Mitchell International Airport (MKE)
Facilities at General Mitchell International Airport (MKE)
Owned and operated by Milwaukee County, the General Mitchell International Airport is a medium-sized air hub that serves about 90 US cities. It is the largest airport in Wisconsin, so passengers can expect a full range of facilities and services.
As it is compact in size, the airport is very easy to navigate. There is one terminal building, having two levels and three concourses (C, D and E) - all providing a full range of facilities. ATMs are located in the main terminal, near the entrance to Concourse E, while data ports are available throughout the terminal.
Those requiring business amenities will be pleased to learn that the airport has conference and meeting rooms for hire. Catering service is also available upon request. A wide range of gift shops and eateries are available throughout. Serious fans of the Harley-Davidson brand will find a shop offering unique souvenirs, while caffeine addicts can head for Starbucks.
If you're travelling with young children, you'll be pleased to find that the airport features a Family Care Room, located at the south end of the Concession Mall. The room offers baby-changing stations, and also a play area stocked with a good selection of toys.
Transportation at General Mitchell International Airport
First-time travellers can rest ensured that they'll reach their destination safely and on time with the airport's limousine service. Taxis are another comfortable option, with plenty of vehicles at the ready - lined up at the taxi stand located in front of the terminal.
For a more economical option, you might choose the door-to-door airport shuttles. These small vans leave the airport for the greater Milwaukee area on a regular schedule throughout the day. Although the shuttles run frequently, you're advised to make sure that you're familiar with the departure times.
There are a few buses also serving the airport and the city. Badger Coaches provide service on the routes to Johnson Creek and Madison, while Public Transit (MCTS Route 80) links the airport to Milwaukee County.
Parking at General Mitchell International Airport
The airport offers plenty of parking spaces for passengers' short- and long-term parking needs. A parking garage and a surface lot are located a short walk away from the terminal, while two remote lots are linked to the terminal by a free shuttle bus service. Passengers parking at the parking garage can access the terminal by skywalks.
Parking spaces are identified by colour codes, and specially-marked spaces for passengers with disabilities are available in both the hourly and daily sections of the garage.
