Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW)
Facilities at Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW)
Formerly known as an airport with 'bearable' facilities, the Detroit Metropolitan Airport - 20 miles southwest of Detroit - has now been improved. With the new McNamara Terminal opened recently, the airport has become one of the main hubs for regional and international flights.
There are three terminals. The newly opened McNamara Terminal operates international airlines between concourses A, B and C. Passengers can hop between concourses by using an underground tunnel. The L.C Smith Terminal serves other airlines that aren't hosted at McNamara, while the Berry Terminal is now used for charter flights only. Shuttle buses connect three terminals together.
Passengers can find a number of ATMs as well as bureaux de change located throughout all terminals. Those wishing to send postcards or letters can find a post box in the McNamara.
The McNamara is home to a wide range of restaurants, bars and cafés, while the other two terminals also have several eateries. Check out the José Cuervo Tequilería, a tequila-themed restaurant in the L.C Smith terminal.
Other facilities include luggage carts and the airport shower services. Disabled facilities and assistance are also available upon request.
Business flyers can take their pick of conference amenities between the ones provided by the Westlin Hotel near the McNamara terminal and the Detroit Airport Marriott.
Transportation at Detroit Metropolitan Airport
The most popular way to get to the airport if you don't have many luggages is to take SMART bus No. 285, which runs into Detroit and neighbouring areas. The bus stand is located on the lower level of L.C Smith terminal. However, you will need to take two buses in order to get into the city.
Optionally, passengers can also take metered taxis and airport mini vans outside all terminals. The airport is about 20 miles from the city centre, so the journey might take between 30 to 40 minutes. If you plan to get here by car from the I-94 Middlebelt/Merriman, take exit 198 that turns into Rogell Drive, or take exit 15 if you are on the I-275 Eureka Road.
Parking at Detroit Metropolitan Airport
All short-term, long-term and disabled parking lots are located near the airport. Shuttle buses connect all car parks to the terminals. The buses also stop at the first level of the long-term car park and pick-up points in the surface car parks.
Those in a hurry can always use valet parking services. The airport also has a new system of parking payment with credit or debit cards, so the ticket is not required.
