Only 10 miles from downtown Chicago, Chicago Midway Airport makes an alternative to the O'Hare Airport. However, the airport does not serve international flights. It is home to major American airlines including American, Continental, and Southwest.
There are three concourses in the airport: A, B and C. All three concourses boast good facilities for passengers. Restaurants and cafés are scattered around, as well as bookstores and newsstands.
ATMs are available throughout the terminal. There are comfortable lounge areas provided free-of-charge to accommodate passengers. There are not too many places to shop in the airport, but Chicago Midway is home to a few small gift shops, a golf shop, a music shop, and a toy shop.
There are no business facilities at the airport at the moment. The plans are to install stations for computers and chargers for laptops.
Other facilities include an inter-faith chapel in Concourse C and medical care services throughout the terminal.
Transportation at Chicago Midway Airport
The main transportation from the airport to the city is the CTA Orange Line rail service, which links Chicago Midway to downtown Chicago. The Midway Orange Line station, where you can buy tickets, is located near the airport on Cicero Avenue.
Other options include bus and shuttle services which operate from the airport to the city centre every 15 minutes. For more information about the updated timetable, contact the information desk in front of terminal buildings.
Those wishing to take a taxi can find a number of taxis waiting at the door M5. You can also use airport taxi-van services. Motorists can easily get to the airport from downtown Chicago by simply following the I-55 south.
Parking at Chicago Midway Airport
There are many types of parking to choose from at Chicago Midway. Hourly parking is on offer on level 3 of the parking garage, while daily parking is on levels 1, 4, 5 and 6.
There's also a Cell Phone Lot for those waiting to pick up arriving passengers. A remote parking is located at 72nd Street and Cicero Street, with shuttle buses providing free services to the terminal. The cheapest parking option is the Economy lot is on 55th street.
